Artist's CommentsThis is the Death card in a series of tarot card illustrations I'm working on, featuring the characters from my comic project. This card features Clia, one of the main characters (and one of my personal favorites). Obviously this isn't the whole card, just the illustration for it.. I'll be adding borders and text to them when I have them all completed. When I posted the sketch of this one, a few people mentioned that it's a bit too sinister looking for the Death card, which may be the case. But on top of these being a series of tarot cards, they're also portraits of the characters from my comic, and this particular character's personality needed to come through here. (There's a multitude of reasons that I chose this particular character for this particular card, although I won't go into them here, since it'd be about six paragraphs long, and I'm sure most of you have already skimmed past this. Although it may look sinister at first glance, think about it for a little while, and you'll probably notice that it's not as scary as you think. This was done completely in Photoshop 7, working off of a scanned-in sketch (which is floating around in my gallery), and, in sharp contrast to the Hanged Man card, this one only took me about ten hours. Mrowr, and that is the amazing
I alaways picture death as a skull face. Awesome, awesome work Silent. I'm really awed by how you can render each strand of hair o.@ -- Creating Eden...one avatar at a time. [link] DA done gone ated my comment....
Let's try again... This is amazing...the shadowing and detail on the hair and the tree branches is great. I also like how you decided to leave the brush strokes in....it gives the pic an added feeling of texture it needed. -- Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. Reports of _your_ demise have been premature, but accurate. something a little different. You're the only one I have seen that can make death look cute. =]
The hair above the jewel in the crown looks a bit off. The lines don't go all the way to the headband and was a bit distracting when I first viewed the picture. This looks like a scarecrow with straw hair and was a very nice image in my mind. I could see myself walking down a country lane and meeting this. Hope I never do! I like this, gj. |
